About the LIC
The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is a government-owned insurance and investment company in India. It is owned by the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India. It was founded on September 1, 1956, when the Indian Parliament passed the Life Insurance of India Act, which nationalised the country’s insurance industry. The state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India was formed through the merger of over 245 insurance companies and provident societies.
The Life Insurance Corporation of India had a total life fund of 28.3 trillion rupees as of 2019. In the 2018–19 fiscal year, the total value of sold insurance was $21.4 million. In the fiscal year 2018–19, the Life Insurance Corporation of India settled 26 million claims. Its policyholders number 290 million. It has 290 million policy holders.
