The Goi Peace Foundation is a Japanese public foundation authorized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Established in 1999 by Masami Saionji, an adopted daughter and a follower of a Japanese philosopher and peace activist :de:Goi Masahisa|Masahisa Goi, the foundation purports as its main goal the promotion of the culture of peace through a global network aimed at fostering cooperation among individuals and organizations. The foundation hosts and supports public events, educational programs, international collaboration, interdisciplinary research and studies.

Improve your writing abilities! An essay competition is being held by the Japan-based Goi Peace Foundation in an effort to tap into the youthful enthusiasm and creativity of the entire planet.

This yearly essay competition is set up to encourage society to take inspiration from young minds and consider how each of us may change the world. Most importantly, there is no entry fee.

Here are the specifics:

International Essay Competition 2023: Topic and Guidelines

Topic : “Youth creates a peaceful future”
What does a peaceful world look like to you? How can young people with creative ideas and approaches work together to achieve a peaceful future? Please share your specific ideas.


Essays can be submitted by anyone up to the age of 25 (as of 15 June 2023) in one of the following age categories: a) Children (up to 14 years)  b) Youth (15 – 25 years)

Essays must be no longer than 700 words in English or French, or no longer than 1,600 characters in Japanese. The essay must be entered with your name and essay title at the top of the first page.

There are no specific rules for formatting (font, size, line spacing, etc.). However, the essay must be submitted in MS Word (DOC/DOCX) or PDF format.

Your name and essay title are not included in the word limit.

Entries must be submitted online. To submit your essay online, you must go to the online registration page and follow the required steps. Submissions by post or email will not be accepted.

Teachers and youth leaders can submit a collection of essays from their class or group by creating a “School/Organization Participant Account” on the online registration page.

Only one entry per person will be accepted.

We are unable to acknowledge acceptance of essays.

Essays must be original and unpublished. Plagiarism will be rejected.

The essay must be written by one person. Co-author essays will not be accepted.

By submitting your essay, you give the organizer permission to publish it in any media. Ownership of the essay remains with the sender.

Deadline : Entries must be received by 15 June 2023 (23:59 local time).

The children’s category and the junior category received the following awards:
1 participant will receive a certificate, 100,000 yen prize money (approx. USD 740 as of February 2023) and gifts.
Second Prize: Certificate, 50,000 yen (about US$370 as of February 2023) in cash and prizes for three participants.
3rd place: gifts and certificates for 5 participants
25 participants received certificates and gifts.

The first to third winners will receive an invitation to the online Winners Gathering. Other awards may be awarded (eg Best School Award and School Encouragement Award). On October 31, 2023 (Japan time), all winners will be announced on this page. Winners will receive prizes and certificates in December 2023. We cannot answer specific questions.
