About the NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission of India (abbreviated as NHRC) is a statutory body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of 28 September 1993. It was given a statutory basis by the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 (PHRA). The NHRC is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights, defined by the act as “Rights Relating To Life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the constitution or embodied in the international covenants and enforceable by courts in India”.

About the NHRC Summer Internship 2024

The National Human Rights Commission has expressly been mandated to promote Human Rights literacy and awareness vide Section 12 (h) of the Protection
of Human Rights Act, 1993. With a view to spreading awareness among, University students about the need for the protection and promotion of Human Rights, the
The commission has been regularly conducting Internship Programmes since 1998.

Other Details

A 250-word write-up on the topic “Statement of Purpose for joining NHRC Online Short Term Internship” will be required to be submitted by the applicants online along with the application form which will also serve as a basis for selection.

Students who have research potential in the areas relating to human rights will be preferred (to be indicated in the write-up). ‘the students may also include the details of co-curricular activities, Moot Courts, Internships, and research projects for strengthening their application. &. Enclosed Are attested scanned copies of MARK-SHIEEIT FROM 10th STANDARD ONWARDS and MARK-SHEET OF EACH YEAR/SEMESTER OF GRADUATION & PRESENTLY PURSUING COURSE and_

Letter of Recommendation (LOR) by concerned HOD/Dean/Principal which should be of a date after the date of uploading of this advertisement and for the presently pursued course.

In the absence following, the applications are liable to be rejected.

1. Scanned Self-attested mark sheets of 12’% Standard, All Semesters of the Graduation Course & marks sheets of all semesters of the Pursuing Course.

2. Scanned Statement of Purposes (SOPs) and

3. Scanned Recommendation Ietter/email by HOD/Dean/Principal concerned in the annexed Proforma.

Students who have attended earlier Internship Programmes organized by NHRC will not be eligible to apply.

This is a full-time Internship Programme from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday to Friday). Students must ensure their availability before applying. The student should not be more than 28 years old on 1* April 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility and selection criteria will be as follows

(1) Students studying in 3rd year and onwards of any integrated 5-year PG Course

(2) Students studying in 3rd/final year of a graduation course

(3) Students of any semester/ year of any post-graduate degree course (also applicable to the students in the three-year LL.B programme)

(4) Students of any semester/ year of any post-graduate diploma course

(5) Students who are research scholars in any stream.

Students must have consistently attained a minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and all subsequent years in attended degree or diploma courses, including the presently pursued courses. The calculated percentage has to be mentioned clearly from their CGPA/SGPA along with the formula for the percentage obtained. Failure to do either of it so would result in rejection of the application form

Course Structure

Brief Course Structure of the Online Short-Term Internship (29th April to 10th May 2024) would be as stated below About 45-50 sessions on various human rights issues are proposed to be covered to sensitize the interns. The OST1-April 2024 will include the following inputs:

i. Address/Interaction with the Hon’ble Chairperson and Members of NHRC and other domain Experts including senior Govt. of India Officials.

ii. Group Project work on Human Rights issues

iii. Book Review to be submitted by the students.

iv. Films on Human Rights & Discussion of Child and Bonded Labour issues, Trafficking, Health including mental health and Education issues and discussions.

Virtual field visit to NGO/ Shelter Homes

The students get to see the workings of these institutions and may get their related questions addressed.

Duration

For the Month of April 2024, a two-week “Online Short Term Internship Programme April 2024 (OSTI- April 2024)” will commence from 29th April to 10th May 2024 (Monday) to (Friday). Applications are invited from eligible students of the entire country

Award

All the student interns successfully completing the internship would receive a stipend of Rs. 2000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only)
ii. Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis following parameters:

* Punctuality, Discipline, and Participation in online sessions is mandatory; as timely submission of Group Project Presentation & Project Reports and Book Reviews.
iii. All the interns must attend all the sessions. However, in case of exceptional circumstances; interns may be given two days only with prior permission.

If any discrepancy, such as Marks/CGPA/Percentage is found in the details given in any application, then the applicant will be barred from future programs ofNHRC along with rejection of such application.

Please ensure that the application for OSTI April 2024 is duly filled. Applications submitted otherwise will not be accepted.

Kindly note Incomplete applications/applications without self-attested copies of mark sheets (10% Class, 120 Class, All semesters of Graduation Course & pursuing Course), Letters of recommendation & SOP etc. will be rejected and Applications sent through e-mails/posts will not be entertained. No application will be accepted after the deadline 18th April 2024 (18.00 Hours),
