About ISRO
The Indian Space Research Organisation is the national space agency of India, headquartered in Bangalore. The Chairman of ISRO also serves as the Executive of the Department of Space, which is directly under the direct control of the Prime Minister of India.
About ISRO Announced Summer Internship
Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), ISRO carries out research in frontier areas of Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics as an integral part of its objective of providing education at the Postgraduate level and facilitating capacity building amongst the user community in geospatial technology and applications. As part of the outreach policy of the institute, it also provides opportunities to bright external students at Postgraduate/ Undergraduate levels from different Universities/ Institutes/Colleges across the country for carrying out dissertation/ summer training.
Eligibility Criteria
Students pursuing B.Tech., B.E., B.Sc.(Engg.), M.Sc., M.Sc. (Tech.), M.E., M.Tech, or MCA degrees may use IRS to help them complete a research project that they may then submit as a dissertation to the relevant university, institute, or college for the award of a degree.

Terms and Conditions of ISRO Announced Summer Internship
The final dissertation report for postgraduate students will be provided by the students as two physical copies (one for the IIRS supervisor and one for the IIRS Library) and a digital copy (on CD-ROM) for the records. While in the case of Undergraduate students, only one copy of the dissertation and a digital copy (in CD-ROM) will be provided by the students to the IIRS supervisor after the completion of the project work and before leaving IIRS.
Benefits of ISRO Announced Summer Internship
- After the successful completion of the Project/ Summer Internship and submission of the thesis dissertation, the students will request for No Dues certificate from the concerned HoD. The students later will receive a certificate of completion from HoD or GH or Dean (A), IIRS after the submission of the thesis/ dissertation.
- The external students may avail mess facility in the IIRS hostel subject to prior approval from Hostel Warden. The students, however, have to pay the Mess charges on monthly basis in advance for availing of the mess facility.
- There will be no books or publications distributed, but all enrolled external students will have access to the IIRS library for consultation only.
- Only applicants with a blood connection to an ISRO or DOS employee or candidates from reputable institutions like the IITs, IISc, IIST, NITs, IIITs, SPAs, ISM, etc. will have their applications from postgraduate or undergraduate students for six to eight-week summer training/internships considered.
Selection Procedure
- The selection of candidates will be based on academic merit, their suitability in the ongoing research/ operational programs of IIRS, availability of appropriate supervisors, etc. The candidates should have a minimum of 65% marks in the qualifying examination (cumulative until last semester) and should have studied mathematics up to 12th standard. Candidates should be knowledgeable in computer programming, geographic information systems, and remote sensing.
- The final selection of the candidates is subject to the approval of competent authority. The chosen candidates will be notified via mail or email. Everyone who is chosen and enrolls in IIRS will be treated as an external student. The choice of candidates by IIRS shall be final, and IIRS shall not entertain any further inquiries in this regard. The maximum number of external students for research work/ summer training to be taken in a year shall be decided by IIRS.

How to apply?
Applications for attachment of Postgraduate/ Undergraduate students should be sent through the Training and Placement Officer/ Dean/ Registrar of the respective Universities/ Institutes/ Colleges with full CV of the student(s). Direct applications from external students are not
accepted. There is no formal application process for IIRS faculty members..
