About NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission of India is a statutory public body established on October 12, 1993, in accordance with the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of September 28, 1993. The Protection of Human Rights Act of 1993 established it as a legal framework.

NHRC Winter Internship Program 2022

Eligibility Criteria of NHRC Winter Internship Program 2022

Candidates/Students who meet the following criteria can be eligible to apply for this program: –

  • Students who have completed their first year and are in their second or third year of a three-year LL.B. course are eligible to apply. students who have completed three years OR six semesters of a five-year course of BA/BBA LLB., etc., and are in their fourth and fifth years are eligible to apply.
  • Students pursuing an LL.M. course, an MA in Human Rights, Political Science, Sociology, Social Work (MSW), Criminology, Public Administration, Rural Development, History, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, International Relations, or any other discipline of Social Sciences will be given priority.
  • Students enrolled in regular courses at UGC-Recognized Universities will be eligible.
  • Students must have received at least 65% in Class XII and all subsequent semester exams.
  • The applicant must be no older than 28 years old on January 1, 2022.

Course Structure

To sensitize the interns, approximately 65 sessions on various human rights issues are proposed to be covered: The following inputs will be included in the WIP 2022:

  • Sessions in the classroom
  • Interaction with the Hon’ble Chairperson and Members of the NHRC
  • Human Rights research project work
  • Book Evaluation
  • Human Rights Films and Discussions – Child Labor Issues, Anti-Trafficking, Elder Rights, Health and Education Issues, etc., and Discussions
  • Field Visits
  1. Visits to Police Stations and Jails – Interns would witness and communicate with police officers and jail officials to gain insight into the Jail and Correctional Administration. Interns would visit NGOs to engage with children and learn about the issues.
  2. Visit the National Commission for Women/Minorities/Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes- The interns would meet with officials from one of the above commissions and learn about the work that is done there.

Facilities for Interns

  • Interns get a Kit/Bag containing NHRC reading material and Internship materials as well as an Interns Identification Card (Temporary)
  • A library and Internet access will be made available.
  • On all working days, interns will be provided with tea and snacks twice a day, as well as lunch. Interns will be given packed meals for field trips.

Benefits of NHRC Winter Internship Program 2022

  • Interns from outside Delhi will be provided with a Sleeper AC 3 Tier train fare to New Delhi and back to their place of study via the shortest route.
  • selected interns receive Stipends of Rs. 12,000 (Rupees Twelve Thousand only) who successfully complete the internship.
  • Interns must make their own arrangements for living accommodations and local transportation to and from the Commission during the internship program.

Awards & Perks

  • Candidates get a Certificate of participation on the basis of the following parameters: –
  1. Attendance
  2. Punctuality
  3. Discipline
  4. Participation in sessions is mandatory Project
  5. Presentation & Project Reports and Book Reviete have to be submitted timely.
  • Interns who have placed Ist, Ind, and IIIrd respectively for the Group Research Project receive an amount of Rs 15,000/-, Rs. 10,000, and Rs.5,000/ as a prize respectively
  • The five interns who received the highest Book Review marks receive awarded books. They would be allowed to select a book of their choice for a price of no more than Rs.1,000/- each. If the cost of the book exceeds the specified amount (Rs.1,000/-), the intern will be expected to cover the difference.
  • The top three Declamation contest interns receive books as a prize. They would be allowed to select a book of their choice for a price of no more than Rs.1,000/- each. If the cost of the book exceeds the specified amount (Rs.1,000/-), the intern will be expected to cover the difference.
