About the IIT Gandhinagar
It is one of the eight Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2008. The institute began operating in a temporary campus at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Chandkheda, mentored by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The first batch of students was admitted to three programs: Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.
IITGN was included in the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. The Act was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012. The IIT Gandhinagar campus is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River in Palaj village.
In 2011, in his inaugural speech at the Amalthea Technology Summit, then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi spoke of the land for the new permanent campus, saying, “The state government has decided to give land on a 99-year lease with a token amount of just one rupee for setting up a campus of IIT-Gandhinagar.” The institute took possession of over 400 acres of land in August 2012, and classes and other activities on the new campus began in July 2015.

The Early-Career Fellowship (IITGN-ECF) offers young scholars the opportunity to work on exciting challenges or research problems in a creative
and interdisciplinary ecosystem. Fellows in the program will have access not only to their assigned department but to the entire research infrastructure and facility of the Institute, which prizes interdisciplinarity. This fellowship strives to empower exceptional researchers and thought leaders in their academic pursuits.
The Early-Career Fellowship Programme invites applications from scholars with a consistently outstanding academic track record.
Fellows are expected to pursue research with significant impact, expand their networks for collaborative research, student mentoring, external grant writing, engage in transformative projects and missions, pursue entrepreneurial endeavors, etc.
Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is for applicants with aspirations for a career in academia.
The applicants should have successfully defended the doctoral thesis from an institution in India or abroad on or after 1st January 2023 and their research work should be rated highly with supporting scholarly publications.
Candidates who have already submitted their doctoral thesis or are planning to submit their thesis in the next couple of months are also welcome to apply.
Indian Citizens or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) card holders are also eligible to apply.

Fellowship Details
The Early-Career Fellowship Programme invites applications from scholars with a consistently outstanding academic track record.
Fellows are expected to pursue research with significant impact, expand their networks for collaborative research, student mentoring, external grant writing, engage in transformative projects and missions, pursue entrepreneurial endeavors, etc.
Selected candidates will work with an IITGN faculty member on a well-identified research problem that leads to a significant research contribution through scholarly publications.
They are also expected to guide student projects, conduct scholarly activities, and attend international workshops.
The Fellowship offers promising young scholars an opportunity to advance their scholarship and academic leadership with the aspiration of joining the top academic institutions in the country.
Stipend and Allowances
Fellowship of Rs 1,00,000 per month (Rs 90,000 plus Rs 10,000 HRA).
Professional development grant of up to Rs 2 Lakh per year.
Fellows can claim a travel reimbursement for up to INR 1.0 Lakh (if relocating from abroad) subject to the undertaking that the Fellow will be associated with IITGN for at least six months.
Duration
The Fellowship is initially for one year, which may be extended up to two years, upon satisfactory performance.
