Description

Since January 2017, Google has been warning all websites that do not protect sensitive website content by serving it over HTTPS. This includes websites that contain forms that require usernames, passwords, credit card and other sensitive information.

In the near future, Google plans to introduce a requirement that all websites be secured. The warnings became increasingly aggressive and were finally highlighted in bold red in the address bar.

The consequences of not complying with these new requirements are easy to see. You invest time, money and energy to drive traffic to your website. Your users expect safe browsing and will likely be less likely to use your site if they see such a warning.

There is a common misconception that securing websites over HTTPS requires server expertise and is an expensive and impractical process.

The goal of this course is to teach you everything you need to know about HTTPS and SSL certificates. We’ll start with the basics. A study of theories and definitions that will be useful in developing your understanding.

From there, we’ll start configuring the Digital Ocean server and installing a free SSL certificate called Let’s Encrypt. We also explored setting up a cron job on an Ubuntu server to automatically renew your certificate periodically.

After completing this course, you will be able to easily secure any website with free HTTPS and SSL certificates.
