About the ISRO
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the national space agency of India. It operates as the primary research and development arm of the Department of Space (DoS), which is directly overseen by the Prime Minister of India while the Chairman of ISRO also acts as the executive of DoS. ISRO is primarily responsible for performing tasks related to space-based operations, space exploration, international space cooperation and the development of related technologies.
ISRO is one of the six government space agencies in the world that possesses full launch capabilities, can deploy cryogenic engines, can launch extraterrestrial missions, and operate a large fleet of artificial satellites. ISRO is one of the four government space agencies to have soft landing (uncrewed) capabilities.
ISRO was previously known as the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), set up under Jawaharlal Nehru on the suggestions of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai in 1962 recognizing the need for space research. INCOSPAR grew and became ISRO in 1969, within the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). In 1972, the government of India set up a Space Commission and the DoS, bringing ISRO under it.
The establishment of ISRO thus institutionalized space research activities in India. It has since been managed by DoS, which also governs various other institutions in India in the domain of astronomy and space technology
Forestry and Ecology Department
The Forestry and Ecology Department (FED) is the oldest department of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), established in 1966. Its primary objective is to provide training and skill development in the use of aerial photography for forest mapping, resource inventory, monitoring, and management for forest managers and the scientific community.
Over the years, the department has expanded its scope and activities to keep pace with technological advancements, focusing on research and capacity building in remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) applications in forestry and ecology. The department has a strong history of research contributions, particularly in the methodology development and execution for nationwide research projects in the forestry sector of India
About the IIRS
Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Govt. of India is a premier Training and Educational Institute set up for developing trained professionals in the field of Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, and GNSS technology for Natural Resources, Environmental and Disaster Management.
Formerly known as the Indian Photo-interpretation Institute (IPI), founded in 1966, the Institute boasts to be the first of its kind in entire South-East Asia. While nurturing its primary endeavor to build capacity among the user community by training mid-career professionals, the Institute has enhanced its capability and evolved many training and education programs that are tuned to meet the requirements of various target groups, ranging from fresh graduates to policymakers including academia. IIRS also conducts an e-learning program on Remote Sensing and Geoinformation Science

Eligibility Criteria
The course is open to anyone with a passion for space, science, and technology! There are no strict academic or professional requirements, and age restrictions are minimal or absent. Students, working professionals, and space enthusiasts are all welcome.
Award of Certificate
All the participants who attend the program through the e-class portal will get an e-certificate for participation.
Target Participants
The course is designed for Professionals, researchers, and students (at least Graduate) engaged in the fields of Forest Management, Conservation, Vegetation Ecology, Environmental Studies, Geospatial Technology, and Modelling.
Overview of Program
The course is conducted through the IIRS outreach facility. IIRS has successfully conducted 163 courses so far through its outreach programme with 7,34,239 participants from 3400+ Institutions/ Universities spread across India.
The objective of the Course: To familiarize ecologists, forest managers, academicians, and researchers on the utility of the Eddy Covariance Technique for Ecosystem Studies.
Course Content: Eddy Covariance data processing, flux partitioning, gap filling; Carbon and energy exchange of different ecosystems; Diurnal to inter and intra-annual patterns of carbon and energy flux; Assessment of spatiotemporal patterns of vegetation carbon and water exchange using satellite-based, LUE, and process-based models.
