About the Internship Opportunities
According to a survey by career-tech portal Internshala, there has been a 200 percent surge in internship opportunities for Indian students over the last five years.
While the Annual Internship Hiring Trends 2024 report did not offer a breakdown by year, business development and management emerged as the top sector in 2023, accounting for 44% of all internships offered.
This demonstrated the high need for profiles related to business development, operations, customer service, digital marketing, sales, and marketing.
Engineering came in second at 20%, offering technology-focused internships in online, app, programming, AutoCAD, and civil engineering.
With a range of vocations including creative writing, journalism, videography, photography, and public relations, the media industry made up 18% of the total.

Pre-placement offers (PPOs) were given out in 23% of internships, according to data, depending on the intern’s performance. Of all internships, 48% were virtual, meaning they allowed the intern to work from home, while 42% were still in-office internships.
In 2023, the monthly stipend average was Rs 8,000, while the highest amount was Rs 1,35,000. A typical internship lasts 3.66 months, ranging from one week to six months.
In terms of geographic distribution, Delhi-NCR accounted for 34% of internship opportunities, with Mumbai coming in second at16%, Bengaluru at10%, Pune at5%, Hyderabad at 3%, and Jaipur at 3%. most sought-after abilities
Recruiters looked at recruiting preferences and wanted certain skills, such as spoken and written English competence, which was requested in 15% of internships. Digital marketing, social media marketing, and Microsoft Excel were key requirements in 4 percent of internships each. Skills like SEO, creative writing, Adobe Photoshop, and MS Office were also required for 3 percent of internships each.
33 percent of the candidates who made the shortlist sought a Bachelor of Technology (BTech), indicating a strong preference for tech-related jobs. Up to 23 percent of the students were recent grads, 22 percent were in their third year, and 19 percent were in their fourth year.
