About the Uppsala University
Uppsala University is a public research university in Uppsala, Sweden. Founded in 1477, it is the oldest university in Sweden and the Nordic countries still in operation.
The university rose to significance during the rise of Sweden as a great power at the end of the 16th century and was then given relative financial stability with a large donation from King Gustavus Adolphus in the early 17th century. Uppsala also has an important historical place in Swedish national culture and identity for the Swedish establishment: in historiography, literature, politics, and music. Many aspects of Swedish academic culture in general, such as the white student cap, originated in Uppsala. It shares some peculiarities, such as the student nation system, with Lund University and the University of Helsinki.
Uppsala belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities and to the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. It has ranked among the world’s 100 best universities in several international rankings.
The university has nine faculties distributed over three disciplinary domains: Humanities and Social Sciences, Medicine and Pharmacy, and Science and Technology. As of 2020, it had approximately 52,000 registered students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and 2,200 PhD students
Eligibility Criteria
You must be a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.
You must demonstrate academic talent and show interest in being in an educational environment.
You can only be awarded a Uppsala University Global Scholarship for a Master’s program at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the program which you have ranked the highest of the four programs you can choose at University Admissions).
You must have applied for the Master’s program before the University Admissions deadline.
You must meet the entry requirements for the Master’s program you applied for. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.

Award value
The scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition fees for studies at Uppsala University. The scholarships do not cover living expenses.
Selection Procedure
Uppsala University’s scholarships are for students who are liable to pay tuition fees.
The selection is merit-based. The scholarships are aimed at academically talented students who show an interest in being in an educational environment.
Information about your academic performance will be obtained from the supporting documents that you submit when applying for Master’s or Bachelor’s studies at universityadmissions.se.
The written motivational letter filled in your online scholarship application is also taken into account in the selection process.
Deadline
The application period for scholarships provided by Uppsala University for prospective international students starting a program in autumn 2024 will be open from 10-22 January 2024.
The deadline is 23:59 CET (Central European Time) on Monday 22 January 2024. Please consider the time zone.
