Description
Welcome to the Amazon EC2 Foundation certification course. This course provides an in-depth overview of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). EC2 Services are essential building blocks for becoming an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner. We begin by exploring the main concepts related to EC2, followed by a practical guide to provisioning computing resources on AWS.
The term “Scalable Cloud Computing” has become synonymous with Amazon Web Services. For nearly a decade, AWS has powered some of the world’s most popular websites and applications. Amazon EC2 is considered the basis for AWS computing.
To illustrate how Amazon EC2 works, let’s explore the concept of virtualization. Virtualization is the process of creating a software-based virtual representation of a server. When we provision an EC2 “instance”, we create a virtual representation of the physical server and its resources. This includes: CPU, random access memory (RAM), storage, and network resources such as bandwidth.
Like physical servers you may find on-premises, virtual EC2 instances can have different configurations. In fact, AWS offers the most complete configuration options when it comes to virtual server deployments. This configuration can easily be adapted to our real-time resource requirements.
The level of customization that a cloud provider can accommodate determines the overall level of complexity of the service. Not all cloud services are created equal. AWS is known to offer the highest configuration options compared to almost any other service. The AWS platform serves micro and enterprise customers by leveraging one of the most scalable and sophisticated virtualization infrastructures available.
In addition to physical hardware customization and scalability, virtualization also allows implementing any operating system on a virtual machine. As you will see, we have the flexibility to deploy Linux and Windows servers using a variety of pre-configured virtualized applications known as AMIs (Amazon Machine Images).
In addition to a theoretical introduction to Amazon EC2, this course also provides you with practical experience working with the most important EC2 functions. It contains:
Explore the characteristics of EC2 instances.
EC2 instance type
Create an IAM user for EC2
Provision the EC2 instance with a pre-configured AMI
Assigns elastic IP addresses to provisioned instances
Manage EC2 instances
Create security groups for provisioned instances
Manage EC2 remotely using SSH utilities such as Terminal for MAC and PuTTY for Windows.
Uses EC2 instance connections to manage instances.
