About the Competition Commission of India
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is the chief national competition regulator in India. It is a statutory body within the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and is responsible for enforcing the Competition Act, of 2002 to promote competition and prevent activities that have an appreciable adverse effect on competition in India. The CCI looks into cases and investigates them if the same harms the competition.
CCI also approves combinations under the act so that two merging entities do not overtake the market.
The commission was established on 14 October 2003. It became fully functional in May 2009 with Dharmendra Kumar as its first chairman. The current Chairperson of the CCI is Ravneet Kaur, who was appointed to the role in 2023.
An Act to provide, keeping in view of the economic development of the country, for the establishment of a Commission to prevent practices having adverse effect on competition, to promote and sustain competition in markets, to protect the interests of consumers and to ensure freedom of trade carried on by other participants in markets, in India, and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
What is the CCI Internship Programme?
The CCI Internship Programme is a prestigious opportunity for undergraduate and postgraduate students to gain practical exposure to the workings of the Competition Commission of India. As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on real-world cases and projects related to:
Anti-competitive agreements and cartels
Abuse of dominance by enterprises
Mergers and acquisitions
Competition advocacy and awareness
Eligibility Critreria
Students pursuing the following courses can apply,
Economics and Management: MA / MSc. (Economics). Fourth and final year students of a 5-year integrated degree Programme in Economics. MBA
Law: Second and third year of the Bachelor’s degree in Law (3-year course after graduation) or Fourth and final year of the five-year integrated course in Law and students who have taken 3rd year exam and are entering the 4th year. LLM
Regulatory Governance: MA / MSc. (Regulatory Governance)
Professional Courses: Students of the final group of Chartered Accountancy or Cost Accountancy or Company Secretary.

Role and Responsibility
The internship is normally for one month, commencing on the 1st working day of the month.
However, applicants desirous of pursuing an internship for 2- 3 calendar months can also apply with due recommendation of the respective University/ College/ Institution for the period applied for.
There will be a short induction programme on provisions of the Competition Act, 2002 on the 1st day of the Internship.
Salary
An amount of Rs.15,000/- per month will be given as an honorarium during the internship.
