About MEA Internship

Ministry of External Affairs is launching the second edition of the MEA Internships Programme for the year 2023-24. The second edition of the programme is aimed towards continuing the aim of the Ministry to bring in more focus on MEA to provide value to the interns; to ensure better gender inclusivity and to increase diversity in terms of qualifications, domicile and socio-economic status amongst the cohort of interns engaged by the Ministry.

Each intern will get an honorarium of INR 10,000 per month to help with living expenses. The selected candidates’ college or university, their home state, or the cost of one-time round-trip airfare between the state capital and Delhi, subject to a ceiling of the current economy class airfare, would be covered. During their internship, the interns will be in charge of paying for their board and accommodations in Delhi.

Selection Procedure of MEA Internship

  • The entire selection process will take place online at www.internship.mea.gov.in. Applications, review, selection, divisional assignment, notification, extension, and certification will all be handled through a Ministry-specific internship portal. To take part in the process, each candidate must register on the internship portal and get access credentials.
  • The two phases of the selection process are the personal interview and preliminary screening. According to the table below, candidates from 14 States and 4 Union Territories will be given consideration in each term of the quota cum weightage process. 26 interns from the 14 States, 02 from each of the four Union Territories, and 02 extra interns who scored the highest from TADP districts or other disadvantaged social groups may be present.
  • Women candidates may occupy at least 30% of the positions. Weighting will be determined by the percentage of marks earned in the +2 and graduation tests, which measure academic performance.
  • Only online applications are accepted from candidates. Merit lists at the state level will be created, with consideration given to both male and female candidates, depending on their academic standing in the +2 and graduation tests. Applications from TADP districts will be given priority during the preliminary screening phase, and during the personal interview phase, applicants from the SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories will also receive preference.
  • Three times as many candidates as there will be interns each semester will be contacted for interviews. Those whose names appear on the merit lists will receive an invitation to a videoconference personal interview. Following the interview process, a maximum of thirty candidates will be chosen and made offers of internships. The next contender on the merit list from that state will be given the opportunity if any chosen candidate chooses not to proceed.
  • The chosen candidates will learn about several facets of the Ministry’s operations, including how its offices are connected, how the Ministry interacts with the public, and how it assists Indian residents throughout the internship.
