High-end Indian universities, such as IIT Mandi, Vellore Institute of Technology, and RV College of Engineering in Bengaluru, have seen an increase in the number of students receiving sizable stipends this year. 27 students received stipends of Rs 1 lakh or more from the tech businesses that visited IIT Mandi, showing an upward trend in student opportunities.
39 students at RV College of Engineering now make over Rs 1 lakh per month, a notable increase from the 8 students who did so the previous year. In a similar vein, The Times of India disclosed that some thirty students at Vellore Institute of Technology were given stipends totalling Rs 1 lakh.
Companies like Amazon and Couchbase also provided high-paying internships this year, with stipends starting at Rs.1.1 lakh to Rs 1.2 lakh, contributing to a surge in opportunities for students across top educational institutions in India. At Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and RV College of Engineering, students are seizing these internships, driven by the demand for technical skills and problem-solving abilities.

According to V Samuel Rajkumar, Director of VIT’s Career Development Center, securing these roles is possible for those who possess a growth mindset and recognize the value of talents. Meanwhile, organizations like Amazon, UiPath, and Microsoft are reportedly paying stipends of up to Rs 1.4 lakh for IT roles, according to Professor Ranganath D, Dean of Placement at RV College of Engineering. Palo Alto, Walmart, and Goldman Sachs all made contributions and provided stipends totalling Rs 1 lakh. Also purportedly promised is a Rs 1 lakh stipend by Google.
“The standards are high. Approximately 39 students who will graduate this year have been awarded internship stipends of at least Rs 1 lakh. Top-tier companies’ campus offers are based on internships, which give students exposure to roles and a segway to working on newer technologies as these digital natives naturally lend to it,” the professor said.

A significant number of students completing internships with these tech firms have secured permanent positions. Himani Sood, pro-chancellor at Chandigarh University, noted a substantial conversion rate from internships to full-time roles, especially with top tech companies in India offering annual salaries ranging from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 65 lakh. International positions also boast attractive compensation, reaching up to Rs 1 crore annually.
