About the NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission of India (abbreviated as NHRC) is a statutory body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of 28 September 1993. It was given a statutory basis by the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 (PHRA). The NHRC is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights, defined by the act as “Rights Relating To Life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the constitution or embodied in the international covenants and enforceable by courts in India”.

About the Summer Internship NHRC 2024

The National Human Rights Commission has expressly been mandated to promote Human Rights literacy and awareness vide Section 12 (h) of the Protection
of Human Rights Act, 1993. With a view to spreading awareness among, University students about the need for the protection and promotion of Human Rights, the
The commission has been regularly conducting Internship Programmes since 1998.

Other Details

A 250-word write-up on the topic “Statement of Purpose for joining NHRC Online Short Term Internship” will be required to be submitted by the applicants online along with the application form which will also serve as a basis for selection.

Students who have research potential in the areas relating to human rights will be preferred (to be indicated in the write-up). ‘the students may also include the details of co-curricular activities, Moot Courts, Internships, and research projects for strengthening their application. &. Enclosed Are attested scanned copies of MARK-SHIEEIT FROM 10th STANDARD ONWARDS and MARK-SHEET OF EACH YEAR/SEMESTER OF GRADUATION & PRESENTLY PURSUING COURSE and_

Letter of Recommendation (LOR) by concerned HOD/Dean/Principal which should be of a date after the date of uploading of this advertisement and for the presently pursued course.

In the absence following, the applications are liable to be rejected.

1. Scanned Self-attested mark sheets of 12’% Standard, All Semesters of the Graduation Course & marks sheets of all semesters of the Pursuing Course.

2. Scanned Statement of Purposes (SOPs) and

3. Scanned Recommendation Ietter/email by HOD/Dean/Principal concerned in the annexed Proforma.

Students who have attended earlier Internship Programmes organized by NHRC will not be eligible to apply.

This is a full-time Internship Programme from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday to Friday). Students must ensure their availability before applying. The student should not be more than 28 years old on 1* April 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility and selection criteria will be as follows

(1) Students studying in 3rd year and onwards of any integrated 5-year PG Course

(2) Students studying in 3rd/final year of a graduation course

(3) Students of any semester/ year of any post-graduate degree course (also applicable to the students in the three-year LL.B programme)

(4) Students of any semester/ year of any post-graduate diploma course

(5) Students who are research scholars in any stream.

Students must have consistently attained a minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and all subsequent years in attended degree or diploma courses, including the presently pursued courses. The calculated percentage has to be mentioned clearly from their CGPA/SGPA along with the formula for the percentage obtained. Failure to do either of it so would result in rejection of the application form

Summer Internship NHRC Structure

About 70-75 sessions on various human rights issues are proposed to be covered to sensitize the interns. The WIP 2023 will include the following inputs:

  • Classroom sessions.
  • Interaction with Hon’ble Chairperson and Members of NHRC.
  • Project work on Human Rights issues.
  • State Presentation on human rights scenario of the State to which interns belong to.
  • Book Review from NHRC Library.
  • Films on Human Rights & Discussion – Child Labour issues, Anti Trafficking, Health and Education issues and discussions.
  • Field Visits
    • Visit to Police Stations & Jail – The Interns would basically observe and interact with Police officers / Jail Authorities and the inmates and appreciate the Jail and Correctional Administration.
    • NGO’s- The interns would visit NGOs where they can interact with Children and appreciate the problems.
    • c. Visit to National Commission for Women / Minorities /Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes – The interns would interact with officials of one of the above commissions and understand the
    • nature of the work carried out there.

Duration

30 days – 4 Weeks Internship

Stipend & Benefits of Summer Internship NHRC 2024

All selected interns will be paid an amount of Rs. 12,000/- (Rupees Twelve Thousand only) as a stipend.

The selected interns from outside Delhi will be allowed ordinary second-class train fare to New Delhi and back to their place of study through the shortest route.

Awards

  • Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis of the following: a. Attendance, Punctuality, Discipline, and Participation in sessions i.e. mandatory; b. Timely submission of Group Project Presentation, Project Reports, and Book Review.
  • An amount of Rs. 15,000/-, Rs. 10,000/-, and Rs. 5,000/- will be given as prize money for interns who are placed Ist, IInd, and IIIrd respectively for the Group Research Project.
  • The five interns with the highest marks for the Book Review will be rewarded in the form of books priced not higher than Rs. 1,000/- each.
  • The top three interns from the Declamation contest will be rewarded in the form of books priced not higher than Rs. 1,000/- each.

The last date for the submission of the application is 26 May 2024.

The Final List of Selected Interns will be displayed on the NHRC website.

Enclose attested scanned copies of mark-sheet from 10th Standard onwards and mark-sheet of each year/semester of presently pursuing course(and recommendation by the concerned HOD/Dean/Principal which should be of a date subsequent to the date of uploading of this advertisement and for the presently pursued course).

In the absence of following, the applications are liable to be rejected.

  • Scanned attested mark-sheets of 10th and 12th Standard, All Semesters of Graduation Course & marks sheets of all semesters of Pursuing Course.

Kindly note – Incomplete applications/applications without attested copies of mark sheets (10th Class, 12th Class, All semesters of Graduation Course & pursuing Course), Letter of recommendation &SOPs etc. will be rejected and Applications sent through e-mails/posts will not be entertained. No application will be accepted after deadline i.e. 26 May 2024.
