About IIST
According to Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), which is located in Thiruvananthapuram, is considered a university. IIST is an independent organization under the jurisdiction of the Indian Space Agency. The Indian Space Research Organization, one of the top scientific institutions in the world working on space research and applications, needed qualified personnel, hence the concept of establishing such an institute was raised.
Offering top-notch instruction at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral levels with a concentration on space sciences, space technology, and space applications, the institute is the first of its type in the nation.

IIST was temporarily located on the grounds of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, which is located not far from the location where ISRO constructed and launched its first rocket. It was formally inaugurated on September 14, 2007, by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, the then-Chairman of ISRO.
The Department of Space, Government of India, is home to the esteemed Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, a leading institution that specializes in space science and technology and associated fields. There are about 96 professors at IIST, along with 258 MTech, 313 PhD, and 578 BTech students.
About the IIST Summer Internship Programme
Many gifted interns visit IIST each summer to collaborate with academic members on engaging short-term projects. Reputable universities such as IITs and IISERs send students at different stages of their BTech, BS-MS, MSc, and other programs to IIST for summer internships.
- ➤ The summer internship of 2024 does not have fellowships. However, boarding and lodging will be provided at nominal rates of Rs 125 (for a base meal) and Rs 25, respectively, per day, depending on the availability of the hostel rooms.
- ➤ Interns must pay a nominal amount of Rs 100 towards certain administrative charges when they join for an internship.
- ➤ Each intern will be given a temporary identity card to access various facilities in IIST.
- ➤ Interns will be provided certificates for completed internships.

Eligibility Criteria of the Summer Internship Program
• Current Programme details include Programme Name, Specialization, current semester or year of study, name and location of the current institution, the web address of the current institution, university, cumulative percentage or CGPA. If you specify the CGPA, please specify the maximum CGPA out of which you secured the current CGPA in the format Cumulative CGPA Secured/Maximum Cumulative CGPA.
• The previous programme details start from 10th to 12th and include details of any other degree programme completed before the current programme. Specify specialization, year of passing, board/university, percentage of marks, or CGPA.
• Specify details on any short-term programmes or workshops you have attended relevant to the topics/projects you are applying for (include location, organizer, when completed, duration, what was learned, etc.).
• Specify details on any special scholarship or fellowship, like KVPY, that you have been awarded (include year, etc.)

- • Determine which of the interest subjects you are qualified for before submitting an application. Take note of the title and the topic code.
- • Before proceeding to the online application form, please download and read this PDF file showing the information required to be entered. Be ready with all the required information before opening the application form. The application form has to be filled out and submitted in one session.

- • April 15, 2024, is the deadline for submitting applications for the Summer Internship Program.
- • On April 22, 2024, the names of the selected candidates will be informally posted on this page, and the candidates will receive an email notifying them of their inclusion.
