About the Delhi University (DU)

Delhi University (DU, ISO: Dillī Viśvavidyālaya), formally the University of Delhi, is a central university located in Delhi, India. It was founded in 1922 by an Act of the Central Legislative Assembly and is recognized as an Institute of Eminence (IoE) by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The university has 16 faculties and 86 departments distributed across its North and South campuses, and remaining colleges across the region. It has 91 constituent colleges. Delhi University is one of the largest university systems in the world with over 400,000 students on its campuses and affiliated colleges.

The Vice President of India serves as the university chancellor. The university is ranked 11th by the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2023.

About the Free Scholarship

The Delhi University’s Dean Students’ Welfare office announced its Free Scholarship (FSS) 2023-24 for students whose family annual income is less than Rs 8 lakh. Candidates have time till 5 pm on January 10 to apply for this scheme.

This financial assistance Free Scholarship is for full-time bonafide students studying in any UG/ PG degree program at a department/ institution/center of the University of Delhi belonging to specific categories:

Students whose family income per annum is less than or equal to Rs 4 lakh. These students will be given a fee waiver of up to 100 percent (actual fee or up to a maximum of Rs 10,000).

Those whose family income per annum is between Rs 4 and 8 lakh will be given a fee waiver of up to 50 percent (actual fee or up to a maximum of Rs 8,000).

The fee waiver includes all components of the fee paid at Delhi University except the examination fee and hostel fee.

Eligibility Criteria

A full-time bonafide student studying in any UG/PC Degree program at a Department/ Institution/ Centre of the University of Delhi belonging to the following categories is eligible to apply. (Students enrolled in B.Tech/Five Year Integrated Law Program are NOT eligible.)

Documents

Self-attested copy of EWS/ OBC-NCL Certificate or Annual family income certificate issued by competent authority after March 31, 2023. An income certificate issued by a notary will not be

accepted.

2. Self-attested copies of the latest Income Tax Returns (2022-23) of the following family members:

a. Father

b. Mother

c. Sister (s) (Unmarried)

d. Brother (s) (Unmarried and below 25 years of age)

3.Self-attested copy of Pan card(s) of all the above

4. Undertaking duly signed by the applicant.

5. Signed copy of bonafide certificate duly signed by Head/ Director of the Centre/ Department/

6. Self-attested copy of the mark sheet of the last exam passed.

7. Self-attested copy of the latest Fee Receipt.

8. Self-attested copy of the Bank Passbook showing the Student’s Name, Account Number, and IFSC

code or a Cancelled Cheque.
